Q. How do I tell the quality of a carpet?
Many people shop by brand, and we offer some of the best -- Shaw®, Mohawk® and Beaulieu®, among others. Quality depends on a variety of factors, but for broadlooms the two main factors are pile length and density, measured in threads per/sq in.
It also depends on the quality of installation, and with nearly 20 years of experience, we help get the most out of your purchase.

Q. Will the carpet resist stains?
Stain and wear warranties vary by manufacturer. All broadloom carpets we carry include stain protection. Protectants generally help make liquids "stand up" on the fibers so they are easier to clean up. Spills should always be blotted as quickly as possible. Consult the manufacturer's care instructions for the carpet you buy.

Q. What type of carpet is easiest to care for?
Berbers and other wool wovens stand up well to wear and are an excellent choice for stairs and other high-traffic areas.
For broadlooms, wear characteristics depend on both the length and density of the pile. Keeping a carpet free of dirt particles that can cut fibers also helps extend carpet life. If you can't vacuum a broadloom that often, we recommend selecting a broadloom with a pattern or with two or more colors of yarn.
On the other hand, dark and dense solids give a warm and luxurious feel to a home. So if frequent vacuuming is not an issue, embrace the richness of soft, plush pile spread wall to wall before you.
Whatever type of carpet you buy, a good quality pad will also help reduce abrasion and add to the comfort. We include a pad on every installation.

Q. Will I see the seam in my carpet?
Broadloom carpets come on 12 ft. or 15 ft. rolls depending on the mill, so in some cases there won't be any seams. With nearly 20 years of experience in carpet installation, Barefoot Carpet is good at hiding seams in any case. But seams are always harder to spot if the carpet uses more than one color of yarn or has a pattern.

Q. Do I have to move the furniture, and will you take the old carpet away?
We generally move furniture as part of our installation service. We also remove and dispose of your old carpet.
|
|
Q. What kind of preparation work is needed on my floor if I want hardwood or vinyl?
Preparation time can vary, and we can best gauge that when we visit. Our services include removing old floors and installing new sub-floors where needed.
Laminate floors, also known as "floating floors" can sometimes "float above" problem areas and save on installation.

Flooring Estimator
Barefoot Carpet will do all the measurements for you prior to installation. Preparation and installation costs will vary depending on the type of material and room requirements, and we can best estimate this at the time of our visit.
However, if you are just browsing and want to estimate material costs so you can compare different types of flooring or carpeting:
Measure dimensions of each area in square yards.
Total all areas to get total sq. yardage.*
Multiply sq. yards by the cost per yard.
For carpeting, add 10% for waste.
*Stairs Count
0.5 yard per stair x the width in yards (typically 1).

Need to Convert?
If you already measured everything in feet, then you need to convert. To convert sq. ft. to sq yards, multiply by 9.
If you measured in yards, but your flooring is sold by the sq. ft, then you need to convert. To convert sq. yards, to sq. ft, divide by 9.
